No More Stuff Left Behind
My son used to have problems bringing things to and from school. A little invention helped our “King of Forgetfulness” overcome this problem. He no longer forgets his belongings nor his homework. I’ve posted this idea on YouTube so please check it out. Please note this video contains audio.
Appropriate Diet – A Social Story for Autism
I have uploaded a new video on youtube. This video is something that I made to try and stop my 16 year old autistic son from eating too much of the same food. I didn’t make necessarily warn him about eating a healthy and balanced diet, , but I explained to him through the video how eating too much can be bad for your body.
Teaching My Autistic Son How to Use the Vacuum
We decided to teach our son how to use the vacuum using visual aids.
In part 2, we will be handing him the vacuum and seeing if he can use it without any verbal cues.
Will my son be able to vacuum with only visual aids to help him?
Voice4u Behind the Stage (4) – The Audio
The audio on Voice4u is of a fairly low pitch. Many autistic kids have very sensitive hearing, and are therefore made uncomfortable by high voices.
Voice4u Behind the Stage (3) – The Graphics
The specialists were very helpful and gave me lots of advice about how I should go about creatingVoice4u. The teachers and speech therapists recommended that the icons don’t wear clothes and don’t have hair.
Voice4u Behind the Stage (2) – The Professionals
When I was informed that Wataru may have autism, I was sent to another specialized hospital. It wasn’t until several months later that he was diagnosed with autism. Because his mental development was recognized as being slower than normal, he was put into specialized classes for his early childhood education. He had already learned several things like how to distinguish between the different colors. A speech therapist was sent to my house to teach me sign language too. I had assumed that the first signs she would teach me would be words like “no”, “don’t touch that”, “be quiet”, or “that’s dangerous”, but I turned out to be completely wrong. The first sign she taught me was what gave me courage to continue on without losing hope. Those words were — “I love you”. This was the sign language taught to me so that I could express my feelings towards my one and only son.
Voice4u Behind the Stage (1) – The Beginning
In this post, we will be telling the stories behind the creation of Voice4u. This will consist of a series of stories, so please enjoy yourself and read them if you wish!
A Loving Grandmother with Voice4u
I am sure that you are all already aware that an iPhone or iPod touch is needed in order use Voice4u.
Today, I gave an informational presentation to the families of children with special needs on how to use the iPhone. Although Voice4u is easy to use after just a little bit of practice, the iPhone itself can sometimes be a little hard to manage. Most of the people gathered today were first time users, so I took it upon myself to help them become more familiar with the device.
Presentation at the Autism PTA and at a Private school for autistic children

I can’t believe it! It’s so easy to use!
The pictures are very easy to look at.
So it is possible to put sentences to icons.Etc.
There were more than 200 people at the Autism PTA meeting, and we had autistic children and teenagers work with the application. Many of the autistic children liked the pictures and they constantly were working with the application.
