Voice4u for Android Version-1.3.0 Released

June 12, 2011

Hello there!

It’s been a long time since the last time we updated the Voice4u Android app. The new version (1.3.0) comes with so many great features and as usual, and updating is all free. So please go ahead and update your Voice4u! It has been made easier for everyone to use. Here is the summary of the new version-1.3.0:

  1. Copying an icon
  2. Ability to switch the grid / list views
  3. Hiding an icon (Trash Box)
  4. No pausing of the sound even after tapping the icon multiple times.
  5. New icons

1. Copying an icon

The feature was already available in the iOS version, and we finally added this feature in the Android version. This feature will help you create a schedule with Voice4u (https://voice4uaac.com/blog/2010/12/how-to-create-schedule-wit-voice4u/).

To use this feature, please follow these steps:
1. Run the Voice4u app.
2. Press the menu button on the device.
3. Tap “Preferences”.
4. Tap “Enable Copy”
5. Select an icon to copy. And tap the “Edit” button in the top right corner.
6. Tap “Copy this icon” and that’s it!

Once you enable the copy feature, all you need to do is repeat steps 5 – 6.

2. Ability to switch the grid / list views

This one a pretty big update. When you download Voice4u, it shows icons in a list (or table view). This feature enables to display in a grid style. You can switch the style very easily.

To show icons in grid / list views, please follow these steps:
1. Run Voice4u app.
2. Press the menu button on the device and tap “Preferences”.
3. Tap “Switch to Grid View” (or “Switch to List View”).

**This feature is currently available for only the Android version.**

3. Hiding an icon (Trash Box)

Another great new feature. We changed the system to move icons to the Trash Box first instead of deleting them permanently. The deleted icons are stored under the Trash Box (just like PC or Mac). You can put back the items from the Trash Box or decide to delete them permanently.

This feature is very very useful when one has deleted an icon by mistake, or it can save icons that aren’t necessary now for your child but you want to use them later when they gain more vocabulary.

To view the Trash Box, please do:
1. Run Voice4u app.
2. Tap the “Category” tab (the middle tab).
3. Press the menu button on the device and tap “Show Trash Box”.

You may decide to put it back or delete permanently (or do nothing) by tapping an each icon. When you return the icon from the Trash Box, the icon will return to its original category unless that category has been deleted. If the category has been deleted, it will be sorted under “Uncategorized”.

One quick note: You may see a whole bunch of icons in the Trash Box. It is because we programmed to hide icons instead of deleting them from the initial release of Android version. The icons in the Trash Box are those you’ve already hidden (deleted) before.

**This feature is currently available for only the Android version.**

4. No pausing of the sound even after tapping the icon multiple times.

We had the problem of when after tapping the icon multiple times, the sound would pause, just like a music application. We decided that this ability was unnecessary and we have made Voice4u continue playing no matter how many times the icon has been tapped.

5. New icons

We added four new icons:

“I like it.”

“I don’t like it.”

“All done”

“Bored”

What’s coming on the NEXT update?
We received many requests to have the ability to use personal pictures and photos for thumbnails of categories. We will be working on getting that in the next update (1.3.1).

How do I update?

It is straightforward. Please follow these steps (this is the standard way to update Android applications).

  1. Tap on the Notification menu at the top and drag it down.
  2. Find Voice4u. Just tap on that and you’ll be taken into the Android Market and be presented with a list of all installed programs that have an update.
  3. Tap on Voice4u to begin the update.
  4. Next, tap Update. The program will remind you it’s replacing the current version. Tap OK.
  5. Now you’ll be shown all the things the application has access to. Tap OK.
  6. New Voice4u will be installed and you’ll be up to date.

If you hit any issues with the new version, please let us know immediately and we’ll fix it right away 🙂
