Portable Speaker for Voice4u

January 5, 2010

When it comes to using Voice4u outside, in a classroom, or in a car, one may find it hard to hear with the built-in speakers of the iPhone or iPod Touch. Due to this minor inconvenience, we have been experimenting with several different speakers (along with other accessories such as armbands and microphones) to see which products produce the best sound quality.

So far, one of our favorites has been the following Portable Rechargeable Speaker: GrooveBassball – Portable Rechargable Speaker

It is capable of producing very high volumes (about as loud as man’s shout), and at the same time it is compact. Additionally, it has a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery which lasts for about three hours of playing time. Because the speakers can be charged via a USB port, they can be recharged on a Mac or a PC even when they are in use.

While we are slightly concerned with the durability of the USB cable (which comes with the speakers), considering its cost (usually $29.99, although it depends on where they were purchased) and portability, we have found this set of speakers to be the best solution thus far.

***Note: We tested this speaker with the 2nd, and 3rd generation iPod Touches along with the original, 3G, and 3GS iPhones. We were pleased with the sound quality on all models except for the 1st generation iPod Touch. Even though the sound can still be heard, it does not have a built-in speaker, allowing only enough audio power to work with earphones.
